” Critics such as Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, Massachusetts Representatives Stephen F. Passed at the height of Bush-era enthusiasm for privatization for Social Security, the bill required the Postal Service to pre-fund its pension and retiree health benefits for current and future workers over 10 years. An article from April on the City Lab website says, “While the modern history of the USPS as an independent executive branch agency dates back to the 1970s, its money troubles can be largely traced to a 2006 law called the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act. The United States Postal Service has been under attack from anti-government forces for years. As the highly respected retired Oregonian reporter Harry Bodine recently quipped to me “If the Post Office was good enough for Benjamin Franklin, it is good enough for me.” Impossible to get a new full-service Post Office? While acknowledging the many challenges the USPS faces and its need for restructuring, the legislative priorities of the Grange are steadfast in supporting this most essential of American institutions. In its May 2020 newsletter, National Grange Legislative Director Burton Eller makes a plea for preserving the USPS with an emphasis on the value of mail delivery for rural residents, providing lobbying advice for anyone who values mail and wants to weigh in. Established in 1867, the National Grange, a nonpartisan, nondenominational, nonprofit fraternal organization, has a long and storied history in supporting rural mail delivery by the original US Post Office (now named the US Postal Service) and considers this one of their key issues of longstanding equitability and access for rural Americans.įeaturing the USPS prominently in its 2020 policy update, Grange leadership makes a strong case for preserving this crucial American institution along with the drastic need for increased rural healthcare and other critical issues for farmers. In the early 1900’s after decades of lobbying, the Grange along with other rural and farm groups, succeeded in convincing Congress to establish free rural mail delivery for the entire USA. Leedy Grange member Bruce Bartlett shares this information. There are a couple of commercial mailing stores that will accept mail for USPS: Mailboxes & More in the “triangle center” on Barnes accepts USPS mail and packages. Ever since Signature NW closed Bales Thriftway and its associated Contract Post Office, people have been struggling to find ways to mail packages and do other postal business. There’s a bigger problem however, with the lack of facilities in our area. Letters requesting more “blue collection boxes” can be mailed toīeaverton, OR 97005-2869. Several of the ones listed on the post office website did not exist, but one of our volunteer editors cruised the area and confirmed locations and updated information. We have compiled a list of available boxes, below. In any case, there should be more of the blue collection boxes in our neighborhoods. From the Postal Service map of collection

Sega-16: The music to Ecco the Dolphin is widely regarded as some of the best on the Sega CD, and many gamers love its atmosphere. It was an awesome facility and we produced some exciting music there. That was the first of four studios I put together for the company, the last being a 11,000 square-foot, two story complex in a historic building in the South of Market (SOMA) area of San Francisco. But essentially they had NOTHING, so for the first several months I worked on my own gear – in a cubicle no less – as we slowly acquired equipment and converted some crude space in a large broom closet (really!) into the original SEGA Studios. Spencer Nilsen: SEGA was just starting to realize the potential impact the right score and SFX could have on the game experience, especially as 16-bit, 44.1K stereo “Redbook” audio and better quality MIDI instruments became a reality. Sega-16: How complete was the audio set up at Sega compared to some other places you worked at? Did Sega give game audio its full attention in terms of equipment, or did you ever feel like you had to “make do” with what you had? There were amazingly creative, bright, articulate, well-educated people in the multimedia studio, who had the patience to teach me about games. I was coming from records, concerts, TV, and film scoring and saw a tremendous opportunity to get in at the ground floor of an exciting and untamed new entertainment arena. I answered with a question, “Do video games HAVE music?” I was familiar with arcade and crude Commodore 64 games, but had never even seen a console game machine. Spencer Nilsen: I got a call out of the blue from SEGA asking if I had ever considered writing music for video or “computer” games. Sega-16: How did you come to be a part of the Sega Multimedia Studio? Nilsen about his time at Sega and his work on the Sega CD. Sega-16 was fortunate enough to chat with Mr. Nowadays, Nilsen is president and creative director of Ex’pression College For Digital Arts, an accredited college that prepares students for careers in entertainment production and technology. he then moved on to scoring television shows and commercials, and eventually he found his way to Sega, where he served as head of the music department for several years. Early in his career, Nilsen worked on productions for such artists as U2, Tom Petty, The Police, and The Who. Sonic CD, however, is but a single title in a long list of works for games, television, movies, and the concert industry. Nilsen was called in to score it, and the rest is history. That last title caused some controversy upon its American release, thanks to the American arm of Sega deciding to change the soundtrack at the last minute. the Kingpin, and the king of them all – Sonic CD. As one of Sega’s in-house composers, he left his distinctive aural mark on such games as Batman Returns, Spider-Man vs. Few artists are more closely tied to the Sega CD than Spencer Nilsen. If you want to validate historical signatures from the blockchain then either openssl or the code in contrib is sufficient. (You may need to use the signature normalize call if you want to match consensus acceptance instead of standardness acceptance). If you want to accept all transactions and only transactions that Bitcoin would accept, libsecp256k1 alone is what you want. It isn't clear to me from your question what your goal is. With some protocols that require parties to store signed transactions, that might be relevant.Īs this is historical behavior of python-bitcoinlib, I am inclined to just document this in the README.md as a 'gotcha', and leave it as it is now.īut maybe there is some other potential problems that could arise out of this issue, that may be more serious, and the first or second options described above should be considered ? What I can see is that when someone uses python-bitcointx or python-bitcoinlib to verify inputs in some transaction, and these inputs contain signatures that is accepted by openssl, but not by bitcoind, they might be convinced that tx is valid, but will have unpleasant surprise when they try to broadcast it. My question is: what may be the implications of this choice ? This means I cannot drop openssl dependency. Python-bitcoinlib was using openssl to decode, too, so I went with the later approach - decode/encode/decode. The problem with this approach (in addition to this decode/encode cycle) is that it will allow some format violations that bitcoind won't allow, because ecdsa_signature_parse_der_lax() only allows an arbitrary subset of violations allowed by openssl. encode-with-openssl then creates valid encoding, and decode-with-libsecp256k1 is happy. This way all encoding violations that openssl allows are also allowed by first decode-with-openssl. do a cycle of decode-with-openssl / encode-with-openssl / decode-with-libsecp256k1.It will also make verification slower to some degree, because more operations will be done in python, vs calling C functions. Porting this function correctly will require to invest some time. I would like to avoid this, to reduce the size of the code (reduce the surface where bug may be introduced). re-implement ecdsa_signature_parse_der_lax() in python. In some environments this may be inconvenient. This is not desireable, because it adds requirement to have C compiler to build the python package. get ecdsa_signature_parse_der_lax() function from libsecp256k1/contrib, add it to python-bitcointx repository, compile at python package build time, install with a package.openssl dependency will stay because of verify_nonstrict(). To be able to verify non-strict-encoded signatures with libsecp256k1, I see 3 options:ĮDIT: I might just implement two verification methods, strict and non-strict, and then use them in tests. It is expected for bitcoin-focused library to be able to verify signatures that bitcoind will also verify. This function is not compiled in a normal compilation cycle of libsecp256k1. Libsecp256k1 function secp256k1_ecdsa_signature_parse_der() only allows strictly valid DER-encoded signatures.īitcoind uses ecdsa_signature_parse_der_lax() function, copied from libsecp256k1's contrib/ directory. I want to be able to remove dependency on openssl in the future, and use only libsecp256k1 in python-bitcointx, but there is a problem that I noticed when I re-wrote CECKey.verify() method: In the python-bitcoinlib code (that python-bitcointx is a derivative of), openssl functions were used for signature verification. I have recently changed verification code in python-bitcointx to use libsecp256k1 library. Thank you in for EZBurner and thanks in advance for any response to my above query.Īh, yes, thanks. Will the keys/order I.D's I have in my control panel still be valid if I still have the original programs installed?
